When nature calls, we at onabreak are ready to respond! An urgent bathroom break led us to Winner’s, a cute little café-restaurant tucked away in one of Essex’s hidden gems.

Popular with road cyclists and car enthusiasts, Winner’s is the perfect road-trip stop, nestled in the idyllic, quintessentially English village of Finchingfield. And, as the name suggests, this café is a winner when it comes to service, coffee and food.

The menu offers a wide variety of mouth-watering breakfast and brunch options at excellent prices, from a full English breakfast starting at £12.50 to a decadent double portion of waffles topped with bacon, fruit and maple syrup for less than £8.

Our two beautifully brewed flat whites came with delicious shortbread biscuits — a delicate touch that was very much appreciated.

We knew we’d stumbled upon a gem when the cosy little café filled with a cheerful group of classic Mini enthusiasts. They later treated us to a drive-by parade, framed by the village green, thatched-roof cottages and historic stone bridge.

Not bad for an otherwise perfectly ordinary autumn Sunday morning! More little discoveries like this are coming your way this season at onabreak.co.uk. In the meantime, explore more of Essex with us here.
